
Will it make a good movie? We have no doubt that The Mortal Instruments could be the next big thing. Aside from The Hunger Games, it's probably the most popular YA series out there right now, due to Clare's accessible writing, epic romance, and relatable characters. Of course, the inclusion of all things supernatural hasn't hurt — we all know vampires and co. are a big deal in the entertainment biz right now, and The Mortal Instruments incorporates all kinds of creatures into a world of hunters and their internal struggles.
Franchise potential? Clare recently announced that there will be three more books in The Mortal Instruments series, starting with City of Fallen Angels in early 2011. If all goes well, that's potentially four or five movies on the cards, or at the very least a trilogy. The first book, City of Bones, should make a huge splash at theaters — it's just what today's teenagers are after.
Fandom? There are numerous fansites, fan groups, and blogs dedicated to the series, with many petitions for Alex Pettyfer to play Jace Wayland littering the Internet. The books have sold a ridiculous amount of copies both domestically and internationally, and with good reason — if anything was to overtake Twilight, it would be this
