The Characters

Clarissa Fray

Clary is just over 5 feet tall with curly, red hair, green eyes, and freckles. She has a small chest and narrow hips, and is said to look like her mother - who is described as beautiful - and have almost no physical traits from her father, Valentine. She describes herself as average though others find her beautiful. Like all Shadowhunters, she possesses strength superior to that of an average human.

Jace Wayland

Jace has fine, curly blond hair and amber eyes. He has a slim, muscular build, and is about 5"11. His face is described as being pretty and angular, and Clary often refers to him as beautiful. Like all other shadowhunters, he is covered in thin, silver scars from years of applying various magical runes with a stele for battle and healing purposes. He also has a peculiar star-shaped scar on his shoulder, signifying him as a descendant from the Herondale bloodline. He is gorgeous.

Simon Lewis

Simon is described as having dark brown hair which has grown longer throughout the series. He is known to have pitch black eyes since his vampire transformation. Also they are described as bigger and deeper by Clary. He only wears glasses until his vampire transformation. Clary claims he is "much hotter" after being Turned, using Isabelle and Maia's recent crushes on him as evidence.

Alec Lightwood

Alec is the eldest Lightwood child, and at the start of the series, he was a Shadowhunter who had never killed a demon. Alec has skill with the bow and arrow and he lives at the Institute with his younger sister, Isabelle. Alec was in love with Jace, but Jace, knowing he could never love Alec, convinced him to move on. Alec realized how much Magnus Bane loved him, and they became a couple.

Isabelle Lightwood

Isabelle is the middle Lightwood child, and her main weapon is the whip she received for her twelfth birthday. Isabelle is a rebellious child and often does things her parents do not approve of. She is very tall and thin, and she can’t cook for her life. She has a tendency to dislike other females and usually has male friends, although Clary was the first exception to this rule.

Jocelyn Fairchild

Jocelyn is Clary’s mother and the former wife of Valentine Morgenstern. She is a Shadowhunter in hiding, keeping her daughter unaware of the Shadowhunters for the first fifteen years of her life. Valentine captures her after she puts herself into a magic-induced coma. She tells Clary the entire story of her hidden past in the last novel.

Lucian Grayback

Luke is a father figure to Clary, as her real father was absent during her childhood. He is a former Shadowhunter-turned-werewolf. He owns a bookshop in Brooklyn and his the leader of a werewolf pack. He fights against Valentine, with whom he was a once close friend. He has been in love with Jocelyn Fray since they were seventeen.

Magnus Bane

Magnus is known as the High Warlock Of Brooklyn. He is powerful and intelligent and usually covered in glitter. He often comes to the aid of Clary and her friends, usually free-of-charge. Magnus falls in love with Alec Lightwood, which is often the reason for the free help. Magnus is bisexual and also over 800 years old.
